The onions will be growing for at least another 2 months so there's plenty of time yet. I'll pull a few in mid August for my shows to give them time to dry out and the others I'll just leave until the tops fall over. This could be the one.

Looks good! The way the leaves grow reminds me of a palm tree I saw in Florida last year. I must find the picture to show you.

Dan - I have finally found the photos of the palm that your onions remind me of. I know they don't belong here, but your onions made me do it! I'll remove them after you've seen them if you wish.

I wish I was having a bit of Florida weather here at the moment. 3 Weeks of solid rain and no sun whatsoever. Anyway this one is my best hope.

Honestly,It's not stopped raining here for 4 weeks.....every single day !!
That's not a problem in my polytunnel, but I haven't seen the sun either for a month ......no kidding.
It's just like suspended animation at the moment,no growth with a bit of botrytis and mildew thrown in for added interest.
I'm sick to death of it.
I'm going to grow Rice and Water chestnuts next year .

Nice to hear that you can still laugh about it Dan, I am wondering if the weather has been responsible for ruining my Gherkin plants as they are really suffering from mildew and I am losing them!
On the brighter side, there will not be a hosepipe ban and the water butts are full!

I've been trying a new eco friendly way of controlling mildew on my courgettes and so far it's stopped it spreading.
Some prof in a university stumbled upon it.
You mix skimmed milk with water 10:1 and spray your succeptable plants with it weekly.
I tried it ,it doesn't smell and It hasn't spread.
So gotta be worth a go on your Gherkins if they're dying anyway ?
;D
