These onions looked great to me - until I read about the weights! No, that's not true, they still look great.
It was interesting to read about "dressing" onions, I'd never heard that term before. Fingers crossed that you win with them in the local showing in September.

Well considering the terrible weather this year I'm amazed how well my garlic has done. Planted it on March 28th and dug it up yesterday. Decent size too. Best thing is that they were planted from some bulbs I had left over from last years crop so I must have inadvertantly developed a new strain which does well in a rubbish summer. ;D ;D

Well done Dan, at a glance I thought they were elephant garlic. I put some in this year and they have done very well now i am thinking of using this years' garlic as seeds for next year. Yours look so good also by the thickness of the stems they look like your big onions.

Dan, how do you do it? Healthy, juicy looking HUGE onions. Wish I had a few for my salad tonight :-)

Very nice, but don't expect anything else from you I didn't get any garlic to plant in time this year after all, we got back off holiday too late. Oh well, perhaps another time.

Dan, your pics have my mouth watering. I love onions. Tell me, do you sell them, or give some away, or eat them all? ;D

Well done Dan, even in this season of awful weather you have come through with something to show for it! I think the main thing is that deep down, you know that you have done your best, and I am sure that no one could have done any better!

Well, it's been two months since anything was posted on here.
No doubt you have your polytunnel cleaned out and ready for next years planting, Dan. Same goes for the garden.
Now is the time to sit back and study the seed catalogues.
I think I will just stick to my courgettes, pumpkins and beans as I've been fairly lucky with them so far. I don't know whether to try the garlic again or not, it doesn't seem to like our garden.

I've just caught up with your diary, Dan. You started the giant onions while we were away on holiday and I'm amazed at how quickly they have grown!
Now, if you don't get the winning giant onions in 2009, I'll be very surprized. I just hope you find the cause of the shrivelled tops.
Very cold over your way with all that ice on the waterbutts! brrrrrr!!!! It hasn't been that cold here - yet.
