Its a strange thing... Anybody who handles the bowls will stroke them ! They appear to be very tactile and it seems the natural thing to do...

I have this interesting bambo carving that has been in the family for ever and was well grimy and dirty. I think It has seen service as a lamp base, a door stop and a holder for the fire irons in the family home all those years ago. I sat outside today and spent some time with some orange oil and a toothbrush to clean the carving. I finshed it with some good old fashioned wax polish and while I was polishing this honey bee popped by and checked out the carving by crawling all over the it.! I think it was attracted by the bees wax in the polish. I was glad he did not come back with his mates.!

That is a nice decoration piece. I bet it has an interesting story even further back than you have told us, Robert. Like - who made it, for himself or for a special present, what kind of wood it is made of, etc. It's nice that you have cleaned it up and shown it to us.

I have been doing a bit research... It is known as a Chinese brush holder. Age.....will probable be in access of 100 years. And its value could be £500-£1000 ...give or take a few hundred Any offers? wow

Robert, you did already have a Wood Carving thread, it was on the second page of Capney's Corner. I have moved this one into the original one for you. I agree with Sis about it making a wonderful snack bowl. What sort of wood is it made from? It would be nice if you would tell us the rough sizes of things, please and thank you. Perhaps this "snack" bowl is large enough to hold a couple of kilos of fruit!

Oh it's smaller than I thought, what a nice dinky size and shape and just right to put your goodies in! Teak can be a very hard wood to work with, how was it for carving?
