Here is one for you, Mikkel - Thank you, I like that and an unusual wheel arrangement at that with it being a 2-4-2.

One with a Red Cardinal pair painted on - I think these birds are so pretty and I was lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a pair for a few seconds when they flew through the garden several days ago.

Mailboxes like these would have made my courier work a lot more interesting, as when I did a delivery I had to give three different descriptions of where I had delivered the item to.
Unfortunately in this country most doors have letterboxes and the mailboxes are either black, red .grey or green and are just boxes. In all time I did the deliveries I only came across two us mail type boxes and they were just plain boxes.
Love the photos and love some of the ideas people have.
Looking forward to more.
Alfie

Thanks Alfie, Linda and DAG. Here is a mailbox seen in a small museum village today. I think it must be padlocked so that tourists don't put their postcards into it as there is no pickup.

Not too keen on this one but obviously it is fairly popular, as I've seen them done like this quite often -

I thought this one was nice, like an old prairie schooner. Saw this style for the first time today, then about 10 minutes after I took this pic, I saw it again on another road.

Just what I thought linda, also does the flag go up automatically when post is put in or do you have to set it each time?

Never heard of a mailbox being stolen, but I guess some of the nice ones have been. Assume they are fixed on securely somehow.
The boxes are not locked up at all - the front flap just pulls down for the mailman to easily open up when he drives by. DAG, you'll love and appreciate this, the mail delivery (small) vans, drive on the proper side of the road like one should (ha-ha!!!) but the driver sits on the wrong side like in Britian, so he can get to the mailboxes without leaning over or getting out. All clear?
The flag is put up by the owner when he has a letter or something to be posted. The mailman then stops to pick it up, even if the person receives no mail that day, and puts it in a special box in his van. So the system takes care of mail being delivered and also mail being mailed. Of course, the correct postage has to be put on already. The mailman doesn't sell stamps. After he has picked the mail up, he puts the flag down.
The public mailboxes look different, well, like the locked up one at the State Park recently. Those are the small ones. There are also large ones that look diferent. I'll take some pics when I go to the Post Office to send the seeds. If I had the correct amount of stamps, I'll just put them in the mailbox out front and put the little flag up.
The kids have one of these (plain) mailboxes at home and the mailman there uses it rather than the usual slit one next to the front door. I've seen them sold in hardware stores and quite a few people have them now, probably the ones that have seen them in America.
