Nice bird table, mikkel.
That is a lovely large clump of hostas and they look nice and healthy. I planted some of this kind a while ago and they started off quite well, but now they seem to have stopped growing.

Hi Mikkel I can well understand how much hard work it takes to make a nice garden from an unloved plot but I'm sure just like me you might not have loved it to begin with but I dare bet your hard labour is now rewarding you with quite a stunning garden.Well done.Hel.xxx.

This is a serious question folks. The picture below is that of one of three and the only surviving Dahlia from last year that cost me a lot of money and the sum of £1. If you look just below it, there is a hole in the earth and we have No explanation for it. Our linen prop for the washing line is no more and 1" while this is double and No mouse or anything like it has been seen in it. It goes down I suppose 3-4" and nothing. I have filled it in numerous times, but 24 hours later, it is there again. Does anybody have an idea exactly what might be causing it please?

I sometimes get conical shaped holes but that is caused by badgers and clearly that is not your problem here.
No idea what it can be mikkel, I would be inclined to fill in the hole and put a series of short sticks around that plant and see what happens?
Alternatively place a boulder where the hole is! ;D

I would think it is a some sort of mouse hole. We've had such in the garden too, and never get to see the inhabitant.
Were the other two dahlia tubers eaten up? This one looks fine.

The dahlia is doing well thank you, but as for the other two, I reckon they're headed down under, if you'll excuse the pun?
While hanging the washing out today, I spotted another 2 and cylindrical type holes in different places and similar to the one in the photo, but away from where the linen prop goes, otherwise I would have said that was the cause. I also know we do have a Mouse in another part of the garden, because I've seen it and Rusty is forever trying to catch it, to no avail.

Na, it couldn't be a mole, Linda, as they always throw up mole hills. I am certain it is a mouse of some sort.

I took Dag's advice and placed a large stone in it, yet 48 hours later and another hole has appeared to the side of it, so I now strongly suspect it IS a mouse. Too wet to get a photo today.

It is almost a year now, since I last posted in this section and pleased to say I did finally discover what was making the holes. It was a Toad, and it was thanks to Rusty that I found out, because he tried to kill it.
This year, I have badly neglected my garden due to Yvonne being ill so long, plus I have had what I consider far more important matters to deal with. Now the tide is turning, so finally made a start on it this week, the same as I am going to do my Dad's twice a week now, because being near 88 and poor health, he can't do it, one Extremely Lazy brother can't be bothered and so wants to sell the place and move nearer to us. To me, that is saying something very nice, because he could have gone anywhere.

Our front garden 3 weeks ago and the reason why it needed a good clear up. Near enough the same picture, but minus the shrubs, etc., taken after finally working on it last night. Pity it's too hot out there now, to carry on and do some more.

Following the passing of my Dad this week, I have decided to do a Memorial Garden for both sets of parents. I have yet to design it, but it could well mean a Complete revamp.

That sounds like a lovely idea, Mikkel. Looking forward to seeing the plans and later on the completed garden.
