£100 for a blue-tongue is a bit steep I think - whatever reptile you're going for you'd be better off finding a good breeder somewhere near you they'll charge much less than a shop. They are gorgeous reptiles though. If your son in also interested in the skinks there are other species that are both smaller and cheaper than the blue-tongues too.

Sorry Silver...only just caught up with this thread I think he liked the Skink because he interacted with him...the Chameleon, despite being fascinating, is a grumpy little git, turns a hissy fit every ten minutes and is a bit of a diva Do skinks enjoy being handled??? Lil Sam shed his skin today and I managed to get a few pics... Pretending he's a xmas decoration... Nearly done now... Look at my new lovely skin!!!!

It depends on the type of skink but blue-tongues can be handed and are generally considered to be very friendly reptiles. Great new photos of him too!

He's looking lovely now...he's getting more markings and the crest on his head is getting bigger. He should be hungry today...think he tired himself out yesterday wriggling about to get his skin off

He's going to be seriously grumpy tomorrow because I've got to clean him out.....last time he hissed at me and took off to his vines...but I'm going to have to clean them too, so he's not going to be a happy chammy. Perhaps I could bribe him with some extra gutloaded crickets

mmmmmmm, I must admit I'm rather taken with the skink meself......perhaps I need to hint to my man again Think I'll still get the boy a couple of geckos....the skink will have to live with me I like skinks as well, but not getting any more reps, or any pets, in the near future

I allways think these little pets take up more time than a bigger pet .no way would i put my hands in the tank.. it cant be much of a life living amongst plastic plants its just not a natural enviroment

He's got real plants too WF...but the vines that he likes to sleep in are plastic. He likes to drink from the drips that collect on his Weeping Fig...I've never managed to kep one of them alive in the house but it's doing great guns in the viv!! Here he is having a stroll yesterday...he's starting to look like a proper Chameleon now...

Fantastic shots of Sam shedding his skin, windy!
It must have been a great experience to see something like that close-up and in real, and to have caught it all too. How long did it take?
Very well done, windy, and thanks for sharing.

It took him about an hour all told to shed completely...last time he was quicker, but he was smaller then. I suppose they try and get it off as quick as possible becasue in the wild it would make them really vulnerable to predators being white like that Just ordered him some waxworms and fruit flies online....can't get them in my local rep shop. Thought I'd give him a bit of variation from crickets now he's getting older...and hoping to get him to eat off my hand !!!
