In spite of the cold up your way, Dan, everything looks great, both in the general veggie department and also in the onion one, too.
That is a good tip about how you plant large seeds, I hope I will remember it.
Another good tip of yours was about using styropor boxes for seeds.
I always collect the sheets of such that you get in some boxed goods and also flakes. I use the sheets, or flat trays, under pots of summer plants when we bring them into the Wintergarten for the winter months. The flakes are good to be used for packaging material again, or as padding for extra warmth around pots in larger pots.

It's all looking great dude...I'm so jealous of your soil I'm risking sowing me pumpkins, courgettes and sweetcorn straight outside this year...dunno??? what do you think? Thanks to your tip with planting the garlic out an inch deep, not with it's top poking out like I did last year, my garlics doing great guns!! Thanks Dan the Man I'm sure the giant onions will catch up...at least everybody's in the same boat!!

Regarding sowing your pumpkins and courgettes outside, you can do it but if we get a cool spell then the seed might rot before germinating(put a plastic bottle over where you sow to act as a little greenhouse). I'd still just start 'em off in pots now personally then you can plant 'em out when the weather's right and they might stand a better chance with the slugs rather than a newly germinated seed. Or do both, plant outside and sow in pots as a back up.

Seems a good idea to get kids involved in growing. Don't know what the mesh is doing over the plants though. Anyway I've planted a bit more stuff tonight and other things are starting to grow. I've updated my site if you fancy a look. Even got strawberrys on my plants...

I hate to dent your hopes guys after this short spell of hot weather we are heading for a cool spell so if I were you dont put your tender plants out just yet. I think there will be a full moon on the 20th and in May this will bring some ground frost. Remember last year towards the end of May we had air frost, it killed my toms and courgettes. Sorry to bring bad news best play safe, we are on the allotment

Looked at the 10 day forecast and absolutely no threat of frost . Why do you think the Full Moon has got anything to do with frost ?? I think the wind direction and cloud cover are more important otherwise we'd have a frost every 28 days surely ?

Hi I dont know if you can remember last year towards the end of May we had a full moon , this brought us air frost and killed off all the courgetts, tomatoes, took the tops of early potatoes and to make matters worse this followed blight. So I am not taking any chances this time.

But just because it happened last year doesn't mean it's going to happen again. Last year it was a heatwave in April but this year it was freezing. A full moon has got absolutely nothing to do with whether we get frost or not. A full moon doesn't "Bring us air frost" as you say. I'm curious to see why you think the Moon brought us the frost ? The night time temperature isn't forecast to drop below 6c for the next 10 days and that's up here in Yorkshire. We had 2 inches of snow once on June 10th a few years ago,but if i used that as a precedent to planting I'd never grow anything. If however you are right and we do get a frost on May 20th then I'll eat my words.
