Busy day today. My bird feeder table had suffered over the years with rotten wood and top felt totally gone. Old stuff removed and a complete rebuild required. It was cheap as chips. Timber came from a crate that contained some equipment from Sweden. Under felt timber was left over from the garage roof replacement. The green mineral felt was "borrowed" from a friend down the road. The side tapered planks were left over from another feeder I made for a paying friend. All I had to supply was tools, screws and touch of creosote. (all in stock) I love this sort of job. I hope the birds appreciated all the effort.

Very nice Robert , I hope the wee devils appreciate it . There's something very satisfying about making something for nothing. At the moment Alfies making a sort of safety gate for the van so that the dogs can't go on the back seats when we are travelling, just incase we have to brake suddenly and they come forward like missiles at 60mph. Its made from bits of firewood and the webbing which holds the bundles together. Like you he supplied the tools etc.

At last... I may have found a way to keep the pigeons away from the bird table while still allowing the little fellows to have some food. The blasted pigeons will sit there all day eating as much seed as they can carry. Its a temporary structure underneath the main table. So far I have seen Robins and Dunnocks feeding from it and the pigeons cannot get to eat. If it works out during the winter i shall do a more stable shelf for the little ones.

That looks a good idea, I shall have to think about that! Nice job Robert!

Seems to be working, but its only been a few days. I don't think the pigeons can actually see the boards underneath the big table, they certainly cannot land on them.

Update during this cold weather.... Seems to be working just fine. This morning we had bluetits and a robin feeding off the small ledges with food on both the top table and the lower tables. Looks like I shall be making a permanent job of it come next spring. We still get the pigeons on top but they just cannot see or get to the food underneath.

All looks fine to me and permanent enough Robert, what more can you do to it then?

Put a edge on the wood. The wind tends to blow the small seed / food off and onto the garden and then the pigeons are on to it.
