Hi Guys and gals Just to let you know I am still around, if a little sluggish. Not beeen around much laterly for several reasons. One being I have a few health issues at the moment that has slowed me down a tad. I`m off to the hospital on the 27th for tests and then I should know more of whats going on. As for the garden.... Its hadly been touched since last august and I have decided this year to forget about veg growing and plant bushes and flowers instead. I just cant cope with it at the moment. Anyways... I`m not far awayand I feel sure will get going agian in awhile.
I`m sure theres a thread somewhere re "Early spring" I spotted a daf in flower the other day and a few bunches of snaw drops and crocus and blossom on a tree or two. It`s a crazy world.
Had an emergency with Celia next door a week or two back. (104 years old) She decided to take a bath without using her bath lift and on trying to get out disjointed a hip...OUCH. Well... our emergency services decided it was not an emergency and it was about an hour plus before the crew turned up to help get her out the bath.. I had to check her vitals all the time while she was stuck in the bath. After several days in hospital she is back home as stubbon as ever and stiull refusing any social help. The other day she comes around as says "Roberet, I think I have a leak in my bathroom" It was sunday night and sure enough there was the water poring through the ceiling ! It all happens down this street...
Bye for now guys.. catch up with you all later.

Sorry to hear you are off the crooks at the moment Robert hope things get better soon and good luck on the 27th, I also go to the hospital on that day just to see if I'm getting on ok with the pills. I know what you mean about the garden I couldn't have cared less about mine last year and think I did it on auto pilot without much enthusiasm.
Take care mate and make sure you look after yourself and Gloria, not forgetting Celia as well
All the best
Ann and Alfie

We're also sorry to hear you're not your usual self Robert and wish both you and Alfie All The Best for the 27th, may you both come out blooming I should think that a 104 year old stuck in the bath was an emergency, did she let the cold water out and was she/you able to refresh it with warm water? She certainly sounds a bit of a goer, bless her. Also, reading back have realized that she must live in a house and use the stairs - wow. DAG and Arney

Hi Robert, lovely to see you again but sorry to hear that you are on the sick list, not a good start to the New Year for you. A prayer and fingers crossed that all turns out well on the 27th. I'm wondering if that last nasty bout with your stuffy head and nose took more out of you and you are still not really over it. Take care, leave the garden alone and Get Well Soon. All the best from Peter and me, too. xx How awful for Celia! Hope she is completely over it all by now. She really should accept some help from Social. Does she have one of these emergency beepers? Lucky you were there to help but that is awful that Emergency didn't think she was an emergency. All the best for her.

Morning guys and gals Just an update on the health situation. Things are looking good at the moment and the pills seem to working. I shall know more when I go the next examination. I managed to do a load of snow clearing the other day without being to knackered which to me is a good sign. Anyways, still bitterly cold in the Vale, We have not been above zero for several days now and todays forecast is maybe some rain on top of all the ice and snow that outs there. That a queue for me to stay inside and attend to my phot uploads. Oh, by the way did I tell you I have sold a couiple of large canvas wraps? Nice little earner and nice to know that somebody out there is happy with my pictures. News from Thailand re the Sugar Salon after the floods, they are up and running again and doing well and expecting a visit from a cosmetics company photographer for a feature. Things are looking good for them. Still thinking about the refit for the garden, still got time before spring comes around. Thats it for now. I shall be back on top form soon on the forum and adding my pennies worth of banter and advise. Have a great day with whatever you are doing today, me, I`m keeping the fire warm.

Hi Robert, lovely to hear from you. We're both glad to hear things are looking up for you and hope they keep heading in the right direction. Hello, Robert, and nicely said, Ann, so I'll just quote you. I was thinking of you again yesterday, Robert, and decided to drop you a line if we didn't hear anything from you by the weekend. Congratulations on selling some of your work! Hope more business comes your way. Good to hear that things are going well in Thailand with the kids. Did they have a lot of damage with the floods? (have I perhaps missed something on this front?) Hope this finds you improving all the time, that Gloria is well, and also Celia's disjointed hip is now better. Great to see you again, Robert, take care. xx

"Evening all" Now who remembers who used to say that on the telly?
Thanks for well wishes, it`s really nice to know you guys and gals are out there in support. Ok, Thailand. Yes Mark is my son married to a Thai lass called Ladda. They own and run the sugar salon in Bangkok which suffered during the floods and was flooding with 3 foot plus of water for about three weeks. Also their house from seriously flooded as well. As a consequence of the House landlord being slow off the mark to carry out repairs they are in process of moving next door. A far nicer house with more room. Laddas village is about 470 miles North of Bangkok and it was a few years ago they purchased a plot of land, they planted with rubber trees and they are now just beginning to produce latex. A few months ago Mark purchased about 15 acres of land and that is now being cleared for further rubber trees. 6,500 young trees are on order for the first batch to go in. I guess he has gone from software engineer to rubber plantation owner in a few short years.
Its a few more weeks yet before I go back for another examination, fingers and toes crossed for that day. Weather......least said the better. It`s been below zero for several days now in the Vale.
I made a start on the gardening today...well.I looked at my box of seeds to see what I have in the way of flower seeds. Turns out not a lot. Loads of veg seed left over from previous years. I reckon I shall visit the local car boot when it starts and see what the growers have on offer. That's me for now. Off now to promote my art work on Fine Arts America.
Gloria is just fine, thank you for asking,Celia is back to her normal self and at 104 is batting for England.

Hope the insurance covered the flood damage to the kids shop, Robert. Did they have house insurance for their personal things. Good luck in their new house and they are well off to be shet of the old landlord. Their rubber tree plantation up north sounds exciting and we wish them much luck with it and continued success. How many people do they have working on it, as obviously they can't do it themselves. I have no idea about things like that but wonder if the collecting of the latax is like collecting the sap from maple trees? Good start on the gardening for this year, Robert. That's the inventory done and now you can start planning. I'm going to concentrate on herbs this year as we had such great luck with them the last quarter of last year in Bradenton. I have already bought 2 packs that I want to put in the mini herb garden on our patio (an old kitchen sink). Good luck with whatever you decide to grow.

Morning all House and business insurance in Thailand? Not really. It costs am arm and a leg and is difficult to get anyhow.
Rubber trees start to produce latex after about 6/7 years During that time a local farmer looks after them for Mark and Ladda, when its time to harvest and produce the latex the farmer starts to get a cut of the profits. Labour in north Thailand is very cheap and it seems easy to get help to do almost anything. Mark has posted loads of pictures of the process that I will attempt to put together for you some time its so much easier with pictures.
I think Maple is collected by boring a hole in the tree. Rubber trees are cut through the bark in a vee cut with a container attached to the bottom of the vee. These days they are plastic. When I was in Malaysia they where half a coconut shell. Now think about the 15 Acres that are awaiting planting. Thats a whole lot of land. They also have their plot for a new house being prepared as well. In Thailand the land has be cleared first, then top soiled and left for two years I think it is before you can build a house.
Garden this year is going to be flowers. As many as can get it the small space I have. I want to be able to sit out with a good book and a drink and just enjoy it.
It was minus 7.1 outside first thing this morning so its another day to catch up with all the PC work I have. Enjoy your day everyone.

Back from the hospital after a long session and feeling a bit tired and weak at the moment. The team in there found polyps...! Quite a lot it seems. All NINE of them.! Doc says I dont think we can remove them in one visit. Anyways I stuck with it with some painkiller, no sedative and after an hour plus they are all removed.. Phew. Follow up visit to see another doc in a week or two to see future checks need to in be 6 months or a year. In some ways I`m pleased thats something has been found. Thats it for now. I need a sweet cup on coffee and some rest.

Hospital visit today for six month chat. Had a nice long chat with the Consultant. He is happy with the polyps situation but has a very minor concern with the oesophagus which I need to keep taking the pills and shout if it gets any worse. Im very pleased with the results. I have to go back next spring for another examination. If its all clear there will another in three years. If not then its another removal procedure. Before I called in at the hospital I spent a couple of hours strolling around York. Thats something I could not do a few months ago. It looked really grand in the sun today.
