I know it is the wrong time of the year for doing this in Europe but it is certainly worth doing next spring as you can save a lot of money. I bought a Painted Nettle about a month ago and it went quite mad, growing all over the place and looking rather untidy. So, cut all the crazy bits off, put them in a vase as a table decoration and they all rooted quickly! I planted them out in a flowerbed out front yesterday and don't doubt that they'll grow and bush out, so making a lovely border there. I just checked on wikipedia and it says about cuttings rooting easily. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solenostemon_scutellarioides

Ah yes Coleus plants, very easy to grow, a few seeds and you could supply the whole street! I grew some from seed a few years ago and ended up giving them away to visiting nurses for my m-i-l as I had filled the greenhouse with them. Mainly indoor plants I think in the UK but can be grown outside as well. One thing about those is that you really need to keep nipping the buds out early on otherwise they are lanky and untidy as you say. Good idea, I might go in for those again next year.
