Peter discovered this small and very agile snake out front near the garage door this afternoon. I grabbed my camera and took some pictures, then picked it up with a dustpan and put it out in the garden. Then I went in to see if I could find a pic of it in my snake book, it is a Southern Ringneck Snake. Completely harmless, even though it at first did rear up and flicked it's tongue to scare me away. Unfortunately, I missed that as the camera wasn't ready. Still managed to get a couple of pics and a video though. Note the pretty markings and colour under the tail - Click on pic to view video - This is a very common but reclusive little snake, usually between 8 to 12 inches long. This one was about 6 inches long. When disturbed, it often coils it's tail to show the bright underside.

Pretty little snake, I hate snakes but I think I could cope with that one as its only the size of a worm. ;D Is that blue its natural colour or did it change to blend in with the surroundings? Well captured anyway kedi!

No, this one was black but some can be dark grey, DAG. It still looks black to me on the pics.

He's a cute little guy Kedi well caught . Although I'm not afraid of snakes I have no desire to have them in my garden. Alfie

On looking again, perhaps more anthracite than black.

I do like his tail, I wonder if that is to attract or deter predators. We have him as a lovely blue colour Kedi so glad you've told us his true colour. He can move very fast and sometimes like a sidewinder (video) so you did well to pick him up. Arney
