No, we didn't buy any of the fungi. To be honest, some of them look so awful that I wouldn't eat them anyway. Like the Morille in the third pic bottom LH corner. They look like a dried and brown version of some awful, but unusual, toadstools I photographed in Florida a couple of years ago, ghastly. See here - naturalworld.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=fungi&action=display&thread=2935&page=2 - starts at Reply #22 Yes, those are the ones that fascinated me as well, DAG. I guess they cut them off when you want some, so you do know they are super fresh. The Button mushrooms are the ones I would have gone for.

Thanks for this Kedi. I assume they're all cultivated as they do seem very pricey.
I've wanted to try Shitake mushrooms for quite a while but just haven't plucked up the courage. I've never been keen on Button mushrooms, always passed them over to DAG but after trying Chestnut and Portobella, I really like and DAG now has to make do with just his own. Claire loves raw mushrooms- most odd. Is that the open air fish diner and where we had those huge choc eclairs?

Arney, I bought a packet of the dried Shitake mushrooms, did them just as the packet said, but even after a couple of tries, I don't like them. Perhaps you could buy just a few in that wonderful Asian shop to try.
I've seen raw (button) mushrooms in salads now and then, they taste OK but are not on the top of my raw veggie list, much prefer them sauteed or fried.
No, that was not where we had the fish, it was in Winschoten. I can still see DAG's face when he bravely tried to eat the Matjes. You did very well and if you didn't like it, you hid the fact extremely well, Arney.
