We have a new family... Signs of feeding this morning so I attached my small MD80 video cam on the end of a six foot cane and went exploring. This is what I found. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvGHzhjEl1s

That's lovely Robert, well caught! I also viewed some of your other video links, good idea of the camera in the supermarket basket! Also watched the girl juggler on the monocycle and planting the potatoes, which I have just done myself a week ago and they are just showing through. Also got carried away with some of the Google widgets that are now available especially the 3D stuff on Google Earth, I didn't realize that anybody could join in and add their own local buildings in 3D if they wish by using the appropriate software........that's most of the afternoon gone again! ;D

Thanks for watching DAG. Makes it all worthwhile. That juggler was way back in 1998 I think it was. EPCOT in Disney World. One of my favorite places ever. I have a few more hours I shall have to search through for a few shorts.

That was lovely seeing the newly-hatched chicks. Thank you, not often anyone gets to see such. I think the jays have abandoned their nest in our beech tree. A pity, would have been nice to see their chicks, but at least the other birds are now safe in our garden.

I have found out that Blackbirds fledge in about 19 days so the plan is for me to take a look with the video every other day or so. I shall post the results on u tube. It could be interesting to see the growth. This will happen if the parents allow to do it of course ! and I feel I am not upsetting the young ones.

Now day three for the chicks and I manged to get there with my little camera on the pole to get a few seconds of video before mum got back. Next time I must try and get the camera a little further away to improve the focus. Difficult as the nest is tucked in really tight to the garage guttering. www.youtube.com/user/capney?feature=mhee#p/a/u/0/bHzWeMGadFA

Haven't they grown a lot in just three days! Yes, next time a wee bit further off and to the right should be perfect. Thanks for sharing, Robert.

I may have to risk using a stool / chair next time to get some height above the next, You just cannot see it from the ground, and my little camera has no monitor so I cant see what I have taken until I plug it into PC. Makes it all the exciting when we first view the footage.

Day four at the nest. This time I pushed the pole cam in from the left and got as close as I could to the gutter and came up with several minutes of video. Still out of focus as I still cant get the camera far enough from the nest for the closest focus. Turn your volume up, you can hear them today and see right into their mouths. www.youtube.com/user/capney?feature=mhee#p/a/u/0/Fu7opJNDh_w

That's very good today, Robert, clear and so steady, well done and thank you. They obviously thought the camera was a parent coming with some food the way they opened their mouths. Isn't it amazing how quickly they grow, already the down is disappearing and the proper feathers are growing. It's great that you are going to this trouble so that we all can see the day-by-day progress the chicks are making. Really appreciated.

I do believe that they think the camera is a new parent that never brings any food. Their mouths were open so wide today that I could almost see right down into their stomachs!
Thanks again, Robert.

I have just ordered a wifi cam. Lets hope I get it in time and I can set it up without bothering the babies. Its not a weather proof one so I shall have to knock up some sort of housing for it. At least this way I wont have to disturb the nest at all and then after I can use it for a spy cam...

Lovely Robert really enjoying seeing them grow, it will be better if you get the new camera in place as it will cause less disturbance. Alfie
