I've been keeping an eye on these two coming from the base of a large oak, they look good enough to eat, joking. One of the things I find fascinating is how its actually grown around the stem of a nettle. I would have thought, the nettle stem, being only soft and pliable, it would have pushed the it aside, but its not, its grown around it without even distorting the stem.

Great pics but what a strange fungi, Pete. It looks like holes in some places but drops in others. Not seen one like that before. The first pic reminded me of an octopus body! In my tree fungi thread I also have something similiar - the fungi grows around the nettle (in my pic it was grass) and not the nettle/grass through it, as I first thought. Reply #2, 5th pic down - and sorry for hijacking, Pete. naturalworld.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=fungi&thread=2933&page=1#15932Unfortunately, I can't remember who told me this. I should have made a note of such info.
