Yesterday I rescued this beautiful character from the clutches of Rasputin and set him free in the orchard. Strongy has kindly identified it as ... "It's an Eyed Lizard (Lacetra Lepida) the largest Lizard in Europe and only found on the Iberian Pen and Southern France. A mature male would be bright green with blue spots and large some can grow to over 2ft long" including tail and will normally attack if cornered. Yours appears to be a subadult not turning green yet." It's in our book Sis but the picture is not as good as mine ....

Well done Victoria and good that you managed to get pics as well, did you have to handle the lizard at all?

What wonderful shots, Sis, well done! I just love the pics of the lizard and how lucky you were able to be able to get them. Goodness, but they can get big!! How big do you think this one was? It looks like it lost it's tail at one point but it has grown back. I looked in our book and the pic there is nowhere near as good as yours which are exceptionally good. Thanks for sharing. xx

Thank you DAG and Sis. Yes, DAG I am happy to pick up these critters ... they are soft like silk.
Sis, he was about 16cm long, including tail. Strongy says where there is one there are more ... whey, hey, a whole family and this one can come back with his scars and saunter up to Rasputin and say ... 'remember me, squirt?'
Rasputin got another one yesterday, a lizard, very slim and sleek with red stripes on the sides of it's head. I rescued it and put it on the stone wall ... hopefully strongy can identify this one for me as well.

It would be nice if Rasputin kept bringing you all these beautiful lizards to photograph, saves going out hunting yourself. I sent the link to the boys while we were skyping today (Phil called) and they were really impressed with this one. There was a very loud "WOW" when they saw it appear on their screen. Looking forward to seeing the one with red stripes.
