I read this article in a magazine -
Place pennies around the perimeter of the plant before covering with soil. The copper blockade will give the slugs a tiny electric shock (caused by the exchange of electrons between the slimy slugs and the metal) the minute they come into contact with the coins.
- don't know if it really works but it is worth a try.

Just my 2 cents, but before you go spending good money on various copper deterents or chemicals:
Tried all the deterents and none of them worked for me, including various copper versions as above, Vaselline around the pots works but only when you keep it maintained and they can't bridge over anywhere else. (Almost impossible)
The frogs got rid of them completely when I had a pond but then the snails moved in and they are more of a pest here now than the slugs.
They did a live test on BBC Gardeners World with all the different known types and none of them worked reliably.
Yes you can deter them a bit or slow them down but if they want your Hostas they will have them! ;D

I've also heard that the copper strips that you can buy to go around pots doesn't work, so I dont hold out much hope for the pennies I'm afraid Kedi.
I understand the theory involved though, and wonder whether the slime of slugs is acid or alkali.
