Now, these aren't the best pictures but I thought you guys might enjoy seeing them anyway. These are photos of Jasper our pet Blue Jay. He fell out of his nest and right onto a cat. Luckily, he so surprised the cat with his unannounced landing that I was able to scoop him up before the cat could recover his senses. Jasper couldn't even quite flutter fly yet and there was no way he could survive on his own. So I took him in the house.
He lived with us for two years. He loved to fly around and steal shiny things and he could mimic so many things. He could do cat call whistles, bark like a dog, meow like a cat, ring like a telephone and make the sound of car tires squealing (he liked action movies). I sent him to live with a bird loving friend when I got pregnant with my youngest. The last thing I needed was him mimicing a baby crying. She has Cockatiels that fly the house and Jasper settled in just fine and now convinced he is a Cockatiel.
Here he is before he could fly real well. He is a bit of mess from his meal. He ate canned cat food for the most part with other things added in. He loved Froot Loops.
Here he is as an adult. This was the cage he was in when he wasn't loose to get into mischief. It was almost five feet tall. The cat sitting on the floor was my Abigail. She is gone to kitty heaven now and no she wasn't thinking of eating him. She never bothered him.
He would spread his wings and vibrate them and chirp and warble at me. I think he thought he was courting me.
