Hello all, I'm back, been a while I know. Anyway just an update on the plants and seed Kedi sent to me last year. The Mexican petunias have been very strange, they appeared to bud up but produced no flowers, at last they appear to be flowering properly but sparsely . The flambouyant tree is doing OK, just managed to get it through the winter Cassia seed is doing well. Galfimia is also growing slowly

Ah, point taken! ;D
I asked because I like all plants that look sort of fern like but of course they normally thrive on shade so as I have very little shade it gives me something to consider for my garden.

Hi, nice to see you again and, as DAG said, thanks for the update. Our Mexican Petunia didn't do so well here this time either. I planted it, in it's pot, in the Wintergarten in front of our large Jade plant, and now it has really picked up and looks quite lush, albeit without flowers. So perhaps we'll both get lucky and have flowers next year. DAG, I sent you a bit of root from it as well - how is your's doing? Great that you got both the Flamboyant and the Cassia to grow, Pete. It won't be long now and we'll get to see how everything is doing in our Florida garden. We're especially looking forward to seeing our Ponderosa Lemon which budded, bloomed and produced fruit all between January when we left and May when it almost attacked Kedi Junior as he walked by it! ;D ;D

Kedi, I didn't have any luck with the Mexican Petunia and I lost it. Not had much luck with most things this year, I have given up with growing lettuces in the wash bowls as there just don't seem to be consistently enough sun when they need it
Not sure what is going to happen with the sweet potato plants, they have been slow to get started so it may be a bit late for them this season but since they like plenty of sun its no surprising really!
Still the runner beans and potatoes seem to love this weather, he he!

Dag I dont think cassia would survive outside all year here. I bet you are looking forward to going back out to Florida Kedi, I know I would be. While I'm here just an update on what has been happening on my patch in the last few months. This might be one of your Datura seed Kedi, PeterS sent me some of exactly the same plant. I've also bought a similar Datura but yellow. Campsis "indian summer" is doing well as usual Along with Campsis radicans Canna "Cleopatra" looks good A canna grown this year from seed sent to me by Victoria Albizzia flowering well for first time. Finally for now, a 30yr old cactus, (Ferrocactus emoryi) flowering for the first time.

Hi Pete looks like you have a very beautiful garden We have a cactus the same as the one in the last photo which used to Ann's mothers, ours has not flowered this year but managed one flower last year. I have no idea how old it is but it must be about the same age as yours. Alfie

How lovely everything is, Pete! Re the Datura. Yes, that looks like the one in the Florida garden. I think I sent the same seeds to you, Peter S and Sis. I've not seen or heard of a yellow one, it is so beautiful and sunny. I sowed half of your La Fleur Lila seeds in Florida (however did they get over there? ;D) and a couple actually came up (I am quite useless with seeds as a rule). I just hope they survived and are doing well, I'll let you know. Didn't sow any here in the end as the timing was off, so perhaps next year. The Campsis are lovely, do you bring them in during the winter or are they hardy? We bought an orange one one but unfortunately didn't have any luck with it. It didn't even want to take off in spite of it being a nice one from the garden center. So we gave up on it. Stunning blooms on the cactus, how long do they last? I think you are lucky with your cactii and, if I remember correctly, you always get them to bloom. No, I shan't ask - of course, they are not hardy and you bring them into your conservatory in the winter. Thanks for sharing, Pete. I really enjoyed looking at all of them. Your Cannas are nice. There is one of the red ones in Florida, but mainly the yellow and orange ones which put on a lovely show. The Albizzia looks so delicate, like fairys. Is it hardy? There is something that has a similar bloom over there but the leaves are different, not as nice as yours.

Thanks Campsis is fairly hard Kedi, in the UK anyway, but it likes good heat in the summer to ripen the wood and stop dieback. They can be slow to establish and a sunny wall is best here, you do get more heat I think in Germany.
I hope the La fleur has not overtaken Florida by the time you get back, I guess some seed must have fallen into your pocket and you forgot about it. ;D
I think you actually sent me a canna seed as well, unfortunately I could not get it to germinate.
Albizzia is totally hardy here but again it needs heat to flower well, it grows well in Germany apparently, in Florida I think it might be regarded as a pest.
Thankyou Alfie, I think my cacti is flowering because I've moved it to another greenhouse which gets much more sun than the one it was in previously. Cool winter temperatures also helps with many desert cacti, and it was even frosty at times last winter in that greenhouse. The plant was bone dry though.

Looks very healthy Pete just hope the frost isn't to bad as it would be a shame to have it damaged now.
