Butter is really easy to make with a food processor just like whipping cream only as Arney found out you don't stop there. After a while the buttermilk starts to seperate and you end up a ball of butter and some buttermilk I use double cream and my food processor ,you can use an electric mixer a hand whisk (hard work) or a jar with a tight fitting lid which you put the cream in leaving plenty of room for it to move and shake it well until the butter forms. (also hard work) Pour the cream into the bowl and process until the butter and buttermilk seperate, drain off the buttermilk and save it for soda bread ,scones etc. Wash the butter by putting cold water into the bowl and processing for a few seconds then drain. Keep doing this until the waters clear. Buttermilk left in can make the butter turn sour, I don't know how long this would take as ours never lasts that long. Next I knead the butter on a board to remove the water. After kneading you add ordinary table salt a wee bit at a time and mix well until you get the taste you want , shape it , wrap it in foil and if you want you can freeze it. My Dad was helping to whip cream and was told " be careful don't turn it into butter" to which he replied " you can't make butter with sugar in the Cream" he soon found out that you can. ;D ;D

It sounds a bit fiddley but I do believe that I shall try it out. I'll do the mixing electrically and Peter can help by doing the kneading. ;D
