Saw these two shrubs, growing side by side, in a garden in Portugal this month. I thought they might be myrtle but after checking on the net, the leaves look wrong. I mean, they appear to be the same plant, just different colours, but the leaves on both are not the same. The ones I saw on the net were more like the ones on the red flowered one. Does anyone know what they are, please?

Hi Sis. I'm trying to figure out why you think these are Myrtus? Were they scented? I have the Myrtus communis 'Tarentina' on the corner under the Jacaranda by the gate ... you asked me what it was. It flowers in April/May with fluffy white flowers as does it's big sis, mine is just a tiny version.
Sorry, I cannot see where either the leaves or flowers on these are similar. I am puzzled by the first one, such blooming here in January, looks like a Portulaca grandiflora, but you say it's a shrub ... how tall? The second one is very possibly White Rosemary(Rosmarinus officinalis 'Albus').
I'm still working on them.

The first is some kind of leptospermum I think, the second could also be lepto, but its not one I know.

I discounted that Pete, as well as Anisdontea capensis ... not to say I was right in doing so!!!!! They don't look right to me and not only is the flowering time wrong, the weather has been too wet and cold.
Where did you see this Sis? In a sheltered garden in town?

For some reason, I guess I confused them with the Myrtus in your garden. Perhaps a pic of yours near mine might help me.
No, they didn't smell and they were in a (hotel) garden down near Rabbit Beach (Coelho), near our hotel. If you want directions of how to get there, I'll give them.

Sorry victoria but I'm convinced along with pete that the red/pink at-least is a leptospermum there's a number of them in the college borders and they are almost identical

Have finally gotten around to looking the name up on the net, Pete, and that is what the red one is. Thanks, also to you aesculus.
Now the white one, please. ;D

Pete and aesculus, I do agree with you both now that I have had a chance to look around.
You were certainly correct, Sis, it is of the Myrtaceae family ... so well done you!
In my searches I think the first could be L scoparium 'Burgundy Queen' ... it really is lovely and I've never seen these double flowers before. The second could be L lanigerum or L liversidgel. When next I'm at Giga (or perhaps Pina) I shall have a look there as they are the ones most likely to have some of the species ... but I've certainly never seen either here. At Guia Flores they were horrible straggly, single-flowered shrubs ... yuk!
