One of the best known active railways in the country. i have only a few pictures but intend to get some more during the summer on our wunderings. I believe this engine is "The Black Five"

I like the first pic of it, Robert, and looks like it just came out of the car/engine wash! I bet you are now groaning and saying "typical woman", ;D Mikkel will probably like this thread as he is a great steam engine fan.

Nice pics Robert, it must be about 25 years since we last went on here, we thought Johnnie would love it as he was about 5. How wrong we were, he slept all the way up the line and played with a little girl all the way back and showed no interest what so ever. His 3 year old son would love it as he is mad on trains.

Great pics Robert and thank you for sharing! Alfie, reminds me that I thought it would be nice to have a train set but then we had 2 daughters, so no joy there and then when we had 2 grandsons...............not the slightest interest there either, just transformers and skateboards! Oh well, can't go back to my childhood with any dignity can I! ;D

Yes that is what is known as a Black 5 and I have a photo in my archives of one passing through West London, many moons ago. I last visited the NYMR back in 1977, vowing to return, but first I have others to visit. The NYMR is the one now famously used in Heartbeat, the BEST programme ever on ITV, that is now never shown, despite more episodes being filmed than actually screened.

One image of the type of countryside the NYMR passes through. I cant wait for the sun so we can start our day trips again. Its been a long winter.

A quick brief on that last picture. That field is open public access land and is the perfect picnic place. Very nice and peacful and not to well known. The reason for that is there are no facilities there. Im sure if there was it would be crowded!

We are in the process of changing our car, so hopefully, this year, we just Might get there ourselves for a weekend and camping at that.
