Any pics or ideas for something that grows say 4 feet high, mauve flowers, or red ones and is easy to trim.

Acers are nice and fit the bill... Large, palm-shaped rich olive-green leaves turning scarlet-red in autumn and tiny purple-red spring flowers. This slow-growing Japanese maple is renowned for its spectacular autumn leaf colour. An excellent specimen tree for a small, partly shady, site, its open habit looks good silhouetted next to buildings or in a contemporary, minimalist garden. Soil Type: Normal Soil PH: Acid, Neutral Flowering Period: Not Applicable Ease of maintenance: Easy Fragrant: No Spring Colour: medium green Summer Colour: medium green Autumn Colour: red Winter Colour: not-applicable Leaf Colour: Green Evergreen: No Season of interest: Autumn

Acers are lovely...but it depends on the location because they're a bit temperamental What about a Hebe??? Evergreen, can take a good hacking (my idea of pruning) and I've got one about 4 ft with lilac flowers on. They're a bit boring though mmmmmm, I'll have a think......

Very pretty. Yes I like those with red leaves.
Butterfly bush? Need to look that up.
I am going to try and purchase a camera this week (sale on in Argos), then once I learn how to use it, I'll share pics of where I'll be planting.
