I thought I'd like to start a thread on what I like to grow in my garden. I tend to like Sub Tropical kinds of plants, the kind that need a far amount of fussing in the UK. Just at the moment the weather is being very unhelpful but if I can get things through the next two months I can have yet another growing season of exotic plants. Back to reality, this is my garden yesterday taken from an upstairs window.

Ummm..........I bet it is tempting to put some bubblewrap around the plants at times like these?

That smaller palm looks so pretty with the snow on the fronds. Just hope it and the other exotics survive.
By the look of it, both it and the tall one behind it are very tall and you must have had them for many years?

Yes Dag, I do have some plants that are protected, I'll show some of them later as the year progresses hopefully. Kedi the two you mention the smaller a Trachycarpus wagnerianus, and a cordyline Australis behind are both more than 25yrs old, so I think they have seen weather like this before.

It looks lovely, Pete, but I've always admired your garden anyway ... and it was probably a good job you started your sub-tropical side of things many years ago because they are now so established they can cope with the current weather.
Have you been doing anything in your veggie patch this year?
I'm actually wondering whether I'd prefer your snow or my torrential rain ... hmmmmmmm
Thanks for that lovely photo.

Victoria, I'd go for the rain anytime.
The veggie patch is not very big these days, something to do with always just giving most of it away, I guess, along with the fact that I dont find brussel sprouts very interesing anymore.
I still grow some onions and I wouldn't be without beetroot. Some nice salad spuds and a few leeks is about it these days.

Mmmmm, sounds good to me ... but I do like a couple of crispy Brussels on the odd occasion. Getting ready now, says she sneezing for the 20th time for some reason, for Sis & Peter and David & Linda's arrival tomorrow. They will come here having met up at the airport and then we'll go for lunch .. my first meeting with David (whey, hey) and they we will decide what we do for the week as the two couples are staying in the same hotel about a half hour from us. Forecast is for sunshine and rain ... but no snow !!!!!!
