Thanks Pete. No, I don't think I had a name for it, but here is a pic of one taken last spring in Florida. You might enjoy looking at these slideshows, pics all taken in Florida last spring. I didn't take many this autumn, too busy working on the house over there. Just found a close-up of the flower, plus put it in another slideshow -

Thanks Kedi.
I had a suspicion it might be some kind of morning glory. Growing in pure sand perhaps?
But now you've posed the question, what is the red flower on the beach? ;D

Thanks DAG and Pete, and yes, it was growing in pure sand.
Ha-ha, gotcha there, Pete, as I am sure the red flower is a type of Echinacea, correct?

I'd really like to know what that flower is on the beach as it would be useful to advise the West Coast folk here. I'm not so sure about the identity of the red flower as most Coneflowers are purple but it doesn't bloom in sand that I know of .... I keep looking ... a better shot of the leaf would be useful.

I'll see if I can find out more about both of them on our next trip over to Florida, Sis.

Kedi the purple flower looks like a Mandevilla sundaville.

TL - that would be great if we finally do have the name of the purple flower. With the name you gave, I just looked on the net, but all the Mandevillas appear to be garden plants, and the ones I photographed were all just growing wild on the beaches. Never saw any in any gardens there. So, perhaps "mine" is a wild form?
Sis - the red flowers are in both of the slideshows on Page 1 of this thread. Perhaps you can see enough of them there to be able to ID it.
