Wow .... the flower does look very much those of the silk tree.... simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silk_tree... but the bombox is totally bizarre ... I love it ... I want it.... I must find this tree .... Great pictures Kedi ... all of them....

The tassle things were the flowers and were so silky and beautiful. Jeanne, you are right, they do look totally bizaare.

Thanks for showing us those Kedi. Interesting flowers, I think the red has to be the showier of the two. Perhaps you could get a pic of the trees in full leaf at some stage?

The white one is pretty but the red one is an eye-catcher.
We'll be back over in Florida in October so I'll get some pics then, guess the leaves will still be on.

I remember these trees but sorry I don't find them attractive ... the toilet brush flowers are nice but the trees are uninteresting. As Pete says, perhaps if you could get a picture with leaves on the trees they may be more photogenic.

I find them very interesting and somehow a bit spooky with that light-coloured bark. The Catalpa also looks so naked up into June before it gets its leaves and then it is gorgeous.

Due to the fact that I live in a very boring cool temperate climate I always find plants that flower with absolutely no leaves fascinating. ;D
