The Tropical House in our Botanical Garden had a special opening last evening, from 7 to 10pm as the giant waterlily was in bloom. Here is a pic of the pond from the website. It looks round here but it is actually oval - Pond in the Tropical House - There are three varieties of these giant waterlilies and this is the middle one, the Victoria Cruziana. The leaves are up to 2 meters in width and the blooms are over 20 cm wide. They only bloom for two days, or rather nights. They are white on the first night and pink on the second. The Botanical Garden managed to get it to bloom last year (I'm sure I posted pics of it then) and again this year. There were two blooms.
