Check it every week. I do this by lifting it out of the pot, but you can see if it is wet or damp in the bowl it is in. Don't let it stand in water!
No direct sunlight either. Yours sounds OK where it is though.

Lovely picture scotkat, I have one on the kitchen window sill and one on the bathroom window sill and as it happens that is on the east side and only gets the early morning sun.
Had them a couple of years now and Linda only puts about a dessert spoonful of water on every 2 or 3 weeks, like kedi says they certainly don't need much. We never feed them either!
I read somewhere that it is a good idea to put the container over a big oval shallow bowl with pebbles in it and water that and not the plant and it will never need watering as the plant will get enough moisture from the surrounding air, but never tried it.
Think it could look nice on say a bathroom window sill, with coloured glass pieces or stones to suit the colour of the flowers but never found a suitable bowl to do it with.

Seen at a friend's house this morning - Dendrobium Nobilis Orchid - Some of the flowers were white and others had a lovely blush on them - Two new plantlets are growing here, and one of them is slated to be mine!

Wow, what wonderful colours! I think orchids are amazing, they ask for so little and give so much!

Oh, lovely pics Sis. I have one Cymbidium (sp?) purchased in the summer of 2005 but it's decided to do nothing all of a sudden except send up some new leaves ... it lives outside here.
