Treated myself to a new laptop yesterday... So far so good. Biggest job was to produce three DVD system backups after intial installation, this took at least two hours but worth it if the system software ever goes belly up.. So far I have installed printer / scanner software and imported all my mail contacts and Firefox bookmarks, and have full internet access. Faill free so far which is more then I can say for other PCs I have owned. Fingers crossed for happy days...

I still have vista on the other laptop and will continue to use it for all the photo stuff I have installed on it as I think there may well be some conflict with the software I have iof I start to install on Windows 7. After installation I had 38 updates to install ! Just goes to show how rapidly software has to change... My version of windows 7 is the 64 bit version runnning with a dual core and 4 gig ram so it should perform with almost anything I throw at.

Be careful what you throw at it Robert ;D I've thrown all sorts of things at my PC but it never helps.

I took the risk and installed my flight sim FSX onto the new laptop and It works a treat. My desktop has a 3.2 Gig processor but did still not have the grunt to run this processor heavy package. I have managed to wind the sliders up and still getting a good frame rate. Also installed a SP1 and SP2 to the flight sim with no problems. At last I can now get some enjoyment out of on of my favorite software packages. robert is happy and will be flying again soon.

Glad that all worked out ok Robert and I certainly must give some serious thought about installing Windows 7 in the near future.
I used to have the Microsoft Flight Simulator software years ago on a previous computer with Windows 98, and liked it so much I bought the joystick for it that had the proper feed back so you could even feel the bumps when landing or taking off and of course the pull of the flying itself. I suppose they are all like that now?
I still have that joystick but no software to go with it! ;D

Tis true there are some high tech joysticks available and mine is a force feedback model which kicks back and rattles down the bumpy runway. Great fun flying on line as well. Flightsims a far better then the windows 98 days but you do need a reasonable high spec machine to fet the best from them.

What do you mean flying on line Robert? I take it you mean flying with other people who are also using Flightsim at the same time (over the Internet), if so can you talk directly to them and see their plane if in range?

Answer to all your questions is yes.. Amazing what technology can do these days. With a previous flight sim I flew around the world, on line flying a Baron. Not easy to fly above 15000 feet and with a restricted range. It was a real challenge. I had other members of the forum joining in whenever they could and fly along with me. The next challenge was to fly from the North pole to the South pole and then return to the North pole. Now that is a challenge.. Sadly that forum is no longer with us and a sadly missed. There are others out there.

Thank you for the info. Robert, I just couldn't spend the time on that now but find it very interesting.
I suppose the scenery has improved since I last used that programme, apart from the main capitals where the odd buildings were sticking up everything else was completely flat except for the change in the tarrain levels. Did enjoy flying under tower bridge though! ;D
