That looks lovely scotkat, and that looks like a nice bit of earth too!
I have never managed to keep an Acer as they don't seem to like my clay soil, and also I think the main problem is that there is no shade in my garden.

Really lovely, Scotkat. Like DAG, I have not had any luck with Acers, I lost two of them.

Not settling in Scotkat as we are still working getting the house done up after gutting it. Still a lot of work but it is beginning to look like a house now and not a battle-field ;D We won't be moving here until the spring of 2010. One of my Acers was still in a pot, think I lost it as I forgot to water it. The other bigger one was in the ground and we think perhaps it was too cold for it. However, do see them around our area here and thee, so perhaps ours just did not like our soil Hope you enjoyed your bike ride.

Scotkat, I have a few acers and the one on the pic was given to me by a lady whom I reccomended for an allotment plot 3 years ago. All the acers go a lovely colour in the Autum. Very pretty.
