Leopard Slug - Limax MaximusPeter found this big slug in the garden today - in one of the pumpkin pots!!! It was about 3 inches long before it stretched out and crawled away. On this photo, you can see its breathing aparatus, actually, you can look right inside of the slug - The following is taken from Wikipedia - "On one side (almost always the right hand side) of the mantle is a respiratory opening, which is easy to see when open, but difficult to see when closed. This opening is known as the pneumostome."

He's a beauty Kedi, don't think I've ever seen one like him before. If he had been in my garden I wouldn't have killed him but would have taken him for a walk far enough away so he didn't come back to eat my plants Alfie

Kedi .... he is a beauty. I've seen plenty a slug, but never a leopard slug.
We've plenty of big ol' yellow banana slug in the hills here.

Thanks DAG, Alfie and Jeanne.
We've never seen one like this before either. I keep looking in that pot now, just in case another one turns up, but no luck so far.
Strange that there was just the one, and it was a biggie too, you would think that there would be more of them around.
