We saw these in the Schloss Garten recently. This one was taken by my 7-year old grandson. He was standing on a post to get it. The ones I took from the bottom were not so good. These are one I took, further down the tree -

I found these tree fungus this past week while on a brief holiday in the Austrian Alps. There seemed to be several sorts on the one tree stump and all are Bracket Fungus (Poriales). The first two pics show trametes suaveolens This one growing on the side of the trunk is a trametes versicolor - - this is the same but is growing on the top - This is a trametes suaveolens like the first two pictures. The grass does not grow through the fungus as I at first thought, but the fungus grows around the grass! ID's and info from someone on another forum. I found this one somewhere else. I had to lean over the top of a chicken-wire fence to get the photo and I couldn't get any closer. The small fungii on the tree stump are rather unclear but the giant at the back was at least 30cm wide!! This is the one I told you about, Wf, where I stepped into a hole after taking the pics and twisted my left ankle something awful, the pain was excruiating for a few minutes, but then I managed to hobble back to the hotel.

Thanks windy.
I have just edited the names and a bit of interesting info in - the fungus grows around the grass and not the grass through the fungus as I said!

Interesting kedi, can you give us an idea of size?

It was a good 20+ cm by 10 cm, DAG, but don't ask what kind of tree fungus it was. I did think it looked like it had been dipped in white paint or icing though, as the white rim looked so fresh.
