This young sparrow flew into the cage* today. He landed on the side netting and the claws of both feet were tangled up in it, so it was impossible for him to get loose by himself. I slowly approached him, talking quietly all the time, and he let me carefully unhook his claws. Apart from a small and oldish injury on the left side of his head, which didn't seem to affect him at all, he appeared to be none the worse for his trip into the cage. I took him out to the side garden and gently put him down in a bed, where he sat for several minutes, long enough for me to go back to get my camera for another photo. Several minutes later, he was gone, and I like to think that his parents found and accepted him again, in spite of the human scent on him. *cage - a frame with mosquito netting all over it. You see it on many outdoor pools and patio areas here in Florida. It not only keeps the bugs out, but also leaves, etc, and usually animals and birds.
