Has anyone ever grown Raspberries before? Any advice or tips?
We bough a small Raspberry cane recently and its just starting to get big and hopefully we have some fruit on it in a few months time. The variety is Glen Prosen.

yes i grow raspberrys you will get some raspberrys either in june/july or september.I am not sure if yours is a summer or autumn raspberry as i am useless at things like that .I have summer and autumn ones myself. watch the birds dont pick your raspberrys before yourself... next year when your raspberry cane gets more established you will get quite a few fruit from it..I freeze some of mine and then they are nice for xmas..As they are really expensive to buy in shops..

I did some research on the variety Glen Prosen and they fruit mid-July to mid-August apparently. Thanks for the advice about watching out for the birds but we don't really get them in our garden as its so small and we have cats and dogs. I think we will freeze some of ours too as that variety is supposed to fruit alot of raspberries.

you may get yours fruit a bit earlyier as i see you are in warmer climates to me.. anyway they dont take much looking after..last year when it was really wet here and it never stopped raining some of mine went a bit mouldy with fungus ..but that was just a one off as 2007 was very wet.so i didnt get much last year...

How big/tall do they normally grow? Have tried to research but couldn't find anything. I think I read you have to cut them down once they have finished producing fruit ready for next year? If so how much do you have to cut them down by? Also I think you have to removed the weaker canes so the stronger ones can produce again?

Think they are about 3 foot high roughly you can cut them down to about a foot i think... they produce runners and more appear next year till you have a big patch of them some of mine have gone under the fence and are growing next door as well.. i wouldnt go to mad on the cutting back you may even throw up a second crop as that has happend here lots of times..

We have a couple and they need to be supported as they are flopping around. We must do something with them this afternoon.
They look like they will have some fruit this year, only had a couple of berries last year.
The only thing is that they have put suckers up in several places, I think that this could get to be a nuicence.

Give it time jc yours may be an Autum variety. It does drag its heels abit because the plant is small. If you have any ash put some at the base of the tree.
