For many years now, I have Loved the Magnolia tree and at one previous address when married, I planted one. Two years later after I moved out, my ex had it ripped out and simply dumped because she claimed she didn't like it and it reminded her of me too much. She committed adultery while I was at work, so when I found out, I moved out, rather than fight. Anyhow, when my now Partner and I moved here in 2007, I spotted a Magnolia in the garden and it was only small then, but upon looking at today and now it has grown a bit, I was amazed to see so many buds had suddenly appeared on it and so here it is below.

It will look beautiful! We have one in our garden that we planted about 1980 and it is a show every year. It has been cut back several times, but this doesn't seem to hinder it bursting out anew every year. A single bloom with a leaf or two looks lovely in a vase and has a nice delicate smell. Be sure to show us your magnolia when it blooms, Mikkel.

Will be interesting to get the same shot in the spring Mikkel. Magnolia is one of those you can smell before you even see.

Looking forward to seeing this beauty in Spring JC .
I have two bare root magnolias I planted last year but so far no sign of growth .
Do you think they will ever grow ?
Or am I better buying a shrub?

This was Mikkel's magnolia, Scotkat, not JC's.
Sorry, I have no idea about bare root magnolias, we got ours as a shrub many years ago. I'm sure that Strongy will know though.

Wish it had been mine though ;D
Not sure about the Magnolias but, I know someone else who planted last year but just too late in the season. She is expecting them to bloom this spring though.
I am going to see if I can buy a shrub for the back in March

I think it would be better buying a shrub rather than bare root as it will start growth faster and will not need such a long time settling in.
