I'm wanting to start a window box to grow salad leaves but does anyone know where I can buy salad plants to grow in the window box. I've seen a mixed lettuce variety but I was wondering if anyone knew anywhere to buy individual types to grow? I just want a little salad box

You might as well just grow from seed as it's far cheaper than buying plants and at this time of year they will germinate and grow really quickly.
Any garden centre or B&Q etc will have loads of different lettuce seeds.
I'd grow the cut and come again types in a window box so you just cut off what you want and leave it to grow.
The basic ones are "Salad Bowl" Lollo Rossa will do the same,Rocket and similar types if you want someting a bit hotter.
Or Little Gem grow quicly and you can eat the thinnings as they grow.

Yeah, bought some mixed salad seeds today as well as some round carrots. I'll see what I like/grows and what doesn't and then take it from there I guess. I used the cricket tubs as pots for them and a really useful box as the tray hehehe
My OH though says I can use the greenhouse, but that will need a good clear out first! I'll see how the first batch grow for now though and take the next step later on.

Vegmandan is right, you are better off putting seeds in. Only takes a few days to germinate.

I meant using seeds - I can only transport things that are easy to carry
