I noticed this on my way up my epic walk on Arran. Never seen one before. It was about 2 inches long. Any ideas ?

It's a Puss Moth (Cerula vinula)
Wonderful shot of it, Dan.

Thanks for the identification. I've never seen such wierd and wonderful things as I did on that walk. I nearly stepped on an amazing beetle about an inch long and bright red with a square wing case ??,couldn't get the camera out in time before it ran off unfortunately. Arran is a crazy place for wildlife and it's only about 20 miles long. What a place though.

What a great shot Dan. This moth was what they based the mothman film on.

While I never had my 35mm with me today, I still had my digital and so took the one below. If you care to look along the face of the sleeper (yes I know, it's railway again. He-he) and about a third of the way from the left, you might just make out Black and a Mauve colour. Is it a Moth or Butterfly and what type please?

Sorry, mikkel, it is too small to be able to tell. Can you enlarge it for us to see better, please?

Sorry, mikkel, it is too small to be able to tell. Can you enlarge it for us to see better, please? Sorry, but if I do it might go wrong again. If I get time, I will pop in to the library tomorrow and look in their books on Butterflies & Moths. I can recall it being about an inch in length, black and with mauve markings.

Hi there Suzie
Now you probably know that's not a very clear picture but ... it could be the Two Tailed Pasha apparently found around Monchique in May/June coming up from Africa.
Actually don't know where you live here ... I am near Messines.
