I just know that it grows where you don't want it to, and that we have several sorts doing this in our garden!
I know it likes damp and shady places, so can't understand why it keeps insisting on growing on the stones in the rockery - in the full sun.
Good luck to David in getting his moss wall going. It is pretty but only if it grows where you want it too.

I realise this thread was mainly asking about building a Moss wall, but any tips on the Best way to rid paths of the stuff please? Both my Dad and us have this problem and most of it seems to fall from the roofs of our homes and continues to grow on the paths, making it slippery. I keep sweeping the stuff away as much as possible, to no avail. Thanks.

Pour hot water with vinegar over it in spring. This will last the whole summer (1l vinegar/10l Water) cold water works, but not that good. Also you can pee on it (as long as you can stand the smell lasting for four weeks at least. Then dig and crab the place regularly if possible. On pathways just use the water mixture.

That sounds good iska!
Mikkel, I used to have that problem especially when I had the front garden and drive all bricked paved over, it became almost a daily job sweeping it away and was getting worse all the time.
Three years ago I had the roof tiles pressure washed and sealed and not had the problem since.
I know it is a bit expensive but the problem will not go away until you do something about the tile surface!

Forgot to add that the only good side of the moss was that I used to collect it and use it for hanging basket filling.

Thanks for the vinegar and water tip, Iska. We'll try that out in the hope of getting rid of two really bad, slippery spots.

Thank you for the very prompt replies. I will try Iska's suggestion and as soon as possible.

I think I will have a note book just for Iskas remedies. Sound and not expensive.
