I've decided to give the runner beans another go this year.
Dan, I'll have to make do with the types to be found over here. I found a possible good one this past week and bought a pack right away.
It is called Neckarkönigin / Neckar Queen. It is touted to be very productive, the beans "meaty", stringless and perhaps best of all, they stay tender for a long time. Last year we had so many tough ones, yuk!
I'll take your advice of picking them when they are still small too.
I just hope that mine grow as well as the ones in your polytunnel. Last year I dug the trench, put newspaper and compost in it and then filled it up with the dug-out garden soil. Oh, added some of the blue corn stuff too.
