Now this shrub I found in Estramadura region just below Lisbon a week ago when we went up to the castles. I feel I should know it but ... It looks like a Primrose but is a small shrub ... And this succulent is here at one of our favourite restaurants and I have never seen one bloom before. It too is shrubby and can be a meter tall. I'd like to know what it is as a friend recently gave me a cutting and she doesn't know what it is ... Sorry, the flowers are bright yellow but I only had my mobile camera with me.

The succulent looks like an aeonium of some kind.

Yes, Pete, I think the succulent is an Aeonium arboreum, thank you. I have just never seen one in flower before.
I am thinking the other is a Wild Brassica fruiticulosa. My book says "Clump-forming hairy perennial. Leaves spoon-shaped or oblong, margins with rounded lobes. Flowers yellow and 8-12mm across; appears in small clusters, often drooping. April-July. Rocky ground. Iberia to N Greece; absent from most islands." It could be blooming early here due to the exceptionally wet weather.

Hmmmmm, Sis. I looked it up in 'our' book, page 286, and the height of the plant is too tall and the flowers are wrong ... especially with those dark red viens. I'm still leaning to the Brassica I mentioned above, page 240, plus www.iewf.org/weedid/Brassica_fruticulosa.htm.

Sis, this is a half-way close-up of the plant you wanted ID'd on page 1 of this thread. The first one I showed was seen in Malta, this one was in the hotel ground, right next to the beach, in Ayia Napa, Cyprus in 2006.

Goodness me ... that IS impressive, Sis. Guess we're not warm enough even to get them that size!

I don't know about that, as it was cool while we were there in January, you can see that Peter has his jacket on.
