Well I've just managed to get hold of some shallots to plant this year. I got a bag of RED SUN from Wilko's for the princeley sum of £1.00 Yes....... one pound for 34 planting shallots!!! I've grown the same for the last 5 years and they've never bolted (gone to seed) and always kept in store for 6 months. What more can you ask for ? So thats 34 shallots that will turn into about 200 when they grow, not really any pests or growing requirements and they keep 'till April. Proper no-brainer.. Anyway I only grow "red" varieties -- they're more pink than red only because I have found that they store much better than the normal ones i.e "golden Gourmet" 15 lbs of Shallots for a quid .... Ave It !!!!

Well, the Giant Onion Seedlings I was hoping to receive have apparently been "Lost in the post !!!!" according to my supplier.
£30 for 50 tiny plants....and not sent by any means of recorded delivery.?
This has really messed my plans up as I am now somehow going to have to find an alternative at the last minute.
If my supplier doesn't either refund me or give me a replacement then I am going to be furious and I will be naming and shaming them on every site possible.
I'm sorry for my rant but as I have based my first ever attempt at a web site around growing a record breaking onion and the only response I have had from the supplier is to say "I sent them in February" I am damned annoyed.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAaRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGgHHHHHhh!!!!!!!!!!
What can you do ??
I'm going to "self medicate" with several Stellas and then Ring him up tomorrow.
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I agree, that really is awful and I hope you get it sorted out. I don't think much of a company if they don't keep records of what is sent out, etc.! Have you used this supplier before?

Thanks for everyones help.
The only trouble is that for a really big onion the seeds need to have been sown in early December, that's why I have opted for plants this year as I don't have a heated greenhouse and buying seedlings takes the initial hard work out of the operation..
There is a place within 20 miles of me, Robinsons Mammoth Onions which sell exhibition seedlings, but the ones I had ordered are from the world record holding strain, almost 16lbs in weight !!!! ,hence the price.
So I'ts not the end of the World ,just a bit of a hiccup.
Anyhow cheers for your concern,I'll keep on ringing and see If I get anywhere.
Dan

Success !!! Just checked my email and he has said that he's going to send me some more on Tuesday. It must have been the barrage of drunken emails I sent him last night that did the trick. Here's hoping...
