Excellent kedi, I was really there! I can see why the pier is so popular with them, to be able to look down into the water and only dive when necessary! Looks like they have got it down to a fine art!

Thanks DAG and Alfie. Yesterday was a great day for watching them. Think because of the storm the night before, the sea was still a bit rough and the fish were near the shore.
There are some small white birds (terns?) that hover and then dive to catch very small fish, but they dive so quickly that I just couldn't follow them, they are like Kami-Kazis!! The gulls would go after them, hover right above and wait until the fish was dropped, then swoop underneath to catch it. An amazing sight but I felt sorry for the little birds doing all the work for the lazy and greedy gulls.

Young Brown Pelican. Taken on a cloudy day so rather drab. Another Brown Pelican diving in to catch it's dinner.

A young Brown Pelican - - and one just swallowing a fish - Unfortunately, this one didn't turn out clear but you can still see how the wings are being folded back a split second before the dive is complete when a fish has been spotted -

They don't look a bit shy, I bet it don't pay to get too near one of those?
