 Troodos Mountains
« Thread Started on Mar 19, 2009, 12:54pm »

The Troodos Mountains range stretches across most of the western side of Cyprus. There are many Byzantine monasteries, churches and also resorts scattered all over them.

However, we wanted to see the ski resort on the top of Mount Olympus (1,952 meters). Yes, there is snow in Cyprus in the winter months (January/February) and we saw the first of it just before getting almost to the top. Mount Olympus is the highest mountain on Cyprus and in good weather the views must be spectacular.

On the day we went up, it was very grey and all those tree-covered mountains looked rather forbidding.

Here at the top you see all the usual ski resort things - a restaurant, snack stalls, souvenier shops, a small market and a horse and buggy ride even -

After looking around here, we drove further up and saw a group of skiers -

Right at the summit, you can see the military "listening station" -

On our way back down, and in spite of the dull weather, we could see the Mediterranean Sea in the distance.

Thanks for the interesting pics kedi, and looking at those, I have never tried to ski, but surely you would need a great deal of confidence to avoid all those trees? I think it would put me off for a start! ::)
